87% of household food waste occurs due to food forgotten in the refrigerator.
Mayonnaise is a long-life food, so it is one of the things that stays in the fridge the longest.
So I came up with the idea: Hellmann’s is the only mayonnaise that keeps food fresh for longer, avoiding waste.
Hellmann’s has always been committed to the fight against food waste.
Now the fight goes to a new level: it is the packaging itself that prevents waste. In fact, we are launching a new pack with a very innovative cap that extends the life of the food.
Since mayonnaise once opened is stored in the fridge, all food will benefit from its presence on the shelf.

Initial Feasibility Study
The Resident Filter
Leveraging the Hellmann’s jar as a permanent resident of the refrigerator, this concept transforms a passive packaging element into an active guardian of freshness.
The design introduces a specialized cap equipped with an enclosed nano-ceramic foam filter, engineered to trap airborne bacteria and ethylene gas via natural convection without ever contacting the mayonnaise.
By passively filtering the surrounding air simply by sitting on the shelf, the jar evolves from a mere condiment into a silent sentinel, extending the lifespan of neighboring fresh produce and turning an everyday object into an effortless tool against food waste.
This project is a concept.
